Partnership to Bring Together Next Generation of Software Defined Networking and Threat Intelligence
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (April 21, 2015) - Cyphort and Big Switch Networks today announced a partnership that brings together Cyphort’s Advanced Threat Defense Platform and Big Switch Networks’ Big Tap Monitoring Fabric for aggregation of web traffic for dynamic enforcement in the network. Together, they create the industry’s first software-based, advanced threat detection and Software Defined Networking (SDN) defense solution.
Both Cyphort and Big Switch Networks are software based solutions and represent the next generation in each of their respective verticals. Cyphort’s recently announced Advanced Threat Defense update allowed for the detection of malware variants used in some of the biggest attacks and is being utilized by a variety of companies. Big Tap Monitoring Fabric is a scalable, SDN-based next-generation network packet broker (NPB) solution that offers a highly cost-optimized and flexible deployment for pervasive network and security monitoring. With Big Tap, enterprises can cost-effectively tap every rack and as a result can achieve deeper visibility and security of data center-wide traffic. Big Tap collects, filters and granularly routes the right flow to security monitoring tools, including Cyphort Advanced Threat Defense Platform for broad-based threat detection.
“Next-generation advanced threat detection and mitigation offerings will have to seamlessly work together as they provide network administrators the necessary intelligence to more easily stop threats,” said Jeremy Carlson, senior director, business development at Cyphort. “By announcing the partnership with Big Switch we have set a new industry standard in relationships to SDN and security vendors. This will undoubtedly have implications on the ecosystems for both markets.”
Cyphort’s announcement comes on the heels of an Enterprise Strategy Group report that showed industry professionals are interested in the idea of SDN involvement in security despite the newness of the technology. According to the report, “about one-quarter of security professionals working in enterprise organizations are interested in leveraging SDN to improve security on a variety of levels like managing network segmentation and creating ‘self-defending networks’”.
“Our customers want flexible, scale-out, and software-intelligent solutions to monitor every network link in order to address growing application performance and security needs,” said Prashant Gandhi, vice president of products and strategy at Big Switch. “Our open SDN fabrics are architected ground-up for pervasive monitoring and attaching threat intelligence represents a new growth area for both security and SDN.”
